Mathematical Analysis in Economics
The course “Mathematical Analysis in Economics” constitutes the methodological foundation for the entire block of quantitative disciplines in modern economic education. Within the framework of this course, a transition is made from descriptive and qualitative accounts of economic phenomena to their rigorous formalisation, quantitative analysis, and verification. The discipline is intended to demonstrate that mathematical apparatus is not an end in itself but a universal language and the most powerful toolkit for understanding the deep‑seated patterns that govern the behaviour of economic agents and the functioning of market systems in various regions and countries.
It is expected that, during the course, students will develop skills in analysing functional dependencies (marginal productivity, utility, elasticity), investigating extrema for optimisation problems, applying integrals to compute accumulated effects (consumer and producer surplus), and analysing differential equations in economic growth models.
The main goal of the course is to develop students’ analytical thinking and equip them with the tools of mathematical analysis for formalising, researching, and solving theoretical and applied economic problems. Achieving this goal involves addressing the following key tasks:
