SAS opens a R&D Center for AI in Higher Education

A year of dedicated effort to integrate AI into the educational process has culminated in the establishment of the Center for Educational Development Based on Artificial Intelligence Technologies at SAS. The Center’s primary mission is to spearhead the creation and implementation of advanced educational AI solutions within Russian universities, reinforcing SAS's role as a pioneering experimental higher education institution.

In 2023, SAS confronted a significant challenge posed by AI, which began to undermine a core educational component: students' independent coursework and their focus on working with texts. In response, we initiated a series of experimental ideas across various courses to transform AI from a potential threat into a valuable resource in a meaningful and creative way that fits SAS academic principles. In June 2024, the "Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education" forum was held at the University of Tyumen, bringing experts and leaders from top universities. The forum highlighted that generative AI represents a transformative breakthrough that has dramatically reshaped higher education. As the global AI-driven transformation of education progresses, our Center is aimed at positioning Russian universities at the forefront of this evolution, enhancing educational quality, and preparing students for a future shaped by AI.
