Media Production 1
The elective is built around the practical creation of a short documentary film. The production will incorporate techniques from documentary filmmaking, journalism, and narrative cinema. Today, the genre of documentary film is experiencing a renaissance, thanks to the growing popularity of streaming platforms and numerous festivals. Documentary filmmakers are searching for new narrative languages, unique ideas, and approaches to shooting and editing.
The course is based on the method of long-term observation, which will allow students to create their own projects in practice, analyze the results, and consequently develop a better version of their project. We will also explore methods such as provocation, reconstruction, and interviews with subjects. The program will be structured around the main stages of media production: development, pre-production, production, and post-production. We have eliminated lengthy preparation to provide students with the most useful and practical information about creating media projects. You pick up a camera, shoot, and edit. Any mistakes or failures can be used to improve and refine your project.
At the core of this approach is the production of video materials using the "progressive JPEG" method. The essence of this method is that the projects students are working on are 100% ready at any moment during the course, but over time, they are refined and improved. With each review of their samples, the student’s project will evolve, be enhanced, and take its final form before presentation.
