Just Google “Middle East friendship chart” or a similar phrase and see. All simply state a basic fact about the region. It is in a deep mess. This class is an introduction to that mess.

That mess has its origins in the ordeals such communities as the Palestinians, the Shias, the Kurds, the Armenians and others have gone through in the last two hundred years. This class explores their ordeals. Part I explores those of the Palestinians and the Shias and Part II those of the Kurds and the Armenians.
