Theories and Practice of Effective Communication
It comes as a no surprise that effective communication courses are widely requested in academic and business domains. Communicative skills are a top priority requirement for all levels and positions in business and in life. Such Soft Skills are manifested in a variety of situations, whenever we need to build a successful communication strategy for a project, manage conflicts properly, conduct a win-win negotiation and generally be persuasive.
The purpose of this particular course is to provide both theoretical background of communication in its philosophical, sociological, psychological and linguistic aspects as well as to provide highly practical material to be easily implemented. Within the course students shall get acquainted with various concepts and theories of communication, and at the same time critically evaluate cases and samples of communicative acts against those theories.
We pay special attention to such areas as conflict management, intercultural communication, possible failures in communication. For that purpose students shall individually present a summary-response for a specific aspect of communication. The main question here to be answered is whether these strategies developed in the late 20th century still valid to this day?
