Project Management
In the business world, Project Management can be defined as the process of leading the work of a team to achieve goals and meet success criteria at a specified time. The primary challenge of project management is to achieve all of the project goals within the given constraints (scope, time, budget). This information is usually described in project documentation, created at the beginning of the development process. The secondary challenge is to optimize the allocation of necessary inputs and apply them to meet pre-defined objectives.
Students learn the methods, mindset, principles and approaches that make projects successful, through the traditional approach of 5 (five) process groups. The course helps students understand how to investigate the impacts of internal and external forces on projects across various business and cultural contexts and apply subject-specific principles, techniques and tools in order to plan and deliver projects in any range of situations. We explore the role of a Project Manager, including budgeting, scheduling, resources, planning, forecasting, responding to change, flexibility, assets, and artifacts.
Students learn to work with PMI templates, i.e. Deliverables, Project Plans, Presentations and Checklists. Our objective shall also be to develop an interdisciplinary approach to driving and facilitating projects – with a critical understanding of how to assess and implement the best methodologies to achieve goals. We will also talk about uncertainty and risk management. By the end of the course we discuss the future of Project Management, other approaches and methods (i.e. Agile, Scrum Master) and the role of PM leadership as well as opportunities for official Project Management Certifications.
