Beyond the Kitchen Table

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are meals we must have daily to live. But do we ever question this basic necessity? Why do we eat what we eat? What does the food we eat tell us about ourselves and our community? Can food become an instrument of social change and how? Food is inherently a powerful discourse that reveals controversies of identity, communities, politics, and the environment.

By investigating these motifs, our understanding of food widens and we become a witness to the larger influence of food in our culture and beyond. To understand the bigger role food plays in our lives, we will break down the different phenomena surrounding food through political, environmental, bodily, historical, and anthropological dimensions.
