Ontology and Metaphysics

This course provides an in-depth exploration of metaphysics, the branch of philosophy concerned with fundamental aspects of the world. The course covers topics such as the problem of free will and determinism, the essence of material objects and their persistence over time, mereology (parts and whole relations), and ontology (what exists).

Students engage with primary texts by leading contemporary philosophers, including David Lewis, Saul Kripke, Kit Fine, and Derek Parfit. Through analysis and critical evaluation of arguments, students develop a deep understanding of the major debates in contemporary analytic metaphysics.

By the end of this course, students have a solid understanding of contemporary issues in analytic metaphysics and the ability to engage critically with these areas.
