Introduction to Research Design and Methods

This course is designed to introduce students to theoretical and practical foundations of social science research. Specifically, this course provides students the opportunity to demonstrate a basic knowledge on the concepts of social research design, demonstrate specific techniques for examining various aspects of social science research, and experience the process of designing a research study.

In addition, at the end of the course, students will also be familiar with simple data analysis as related to research in the social sciences.

The course is divided into two parts. The first part is devoted to terminology and the basics of social science research design and the second part consists of a series of hands-on workshops in which students will participate in many of the basic techniques of social research.
