Research Seminar
The Research Seminar is a course designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to conduct independent research projects that lead them to developing their individual BA Thesis Projects. By building up on the foundational courses in research methodology for each major separately the course is providing students with a deeper understanding of research processes and methods, and their application.
Throughout the course, students engage in critical discussions, develop research proposals, and conduct individual original research projects that are defended at the end of Year 4. They explore different research methodologies, including qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods approaches, and learn how to design and implement research projects that are appropriate for addressing complex research questions.
The course also covers topics such as literature review, data collection, analysis, and interpretation, as well as ethical considerations in research. Students are encouraged to explore interdisciplinary perspectives and to consider how research can contribute to solving real-world problems.
The seminar format will involve a combination of lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities. All of them are aimed at providing students with guidance in developing their topic, executing their research, writing up findings, polishing the final draft for submission, and preparing for the oral defense of the research. The seminar also provides a forum for peer support, professional development, and discussion of issues related to students’ research.
The course starts in Year 3 Quarter 4 and lasts till Year 4 Quarter 3. Each major has their own specific requirements for the course depending on the specific research field.
