Thinking on Paper: Efficient and Elegant Professional English
This course helps students become a better reader and writer of English. They learn how to write clear, well-organised, and persuasive text for different types of professional purposes. Also learn how to analyse, evaluate, and summarise texts of varying length and difficulty, as well as to identify the appropriate tone and level of formality of different kinds of texts (emails, minutes, reports) in relation to your audience and the purpose of the text.
Students also familiarise themself with a multi-stage revision process: during the course, you will produce short texts both alone and together and share them with each other to provide constructive feedback on each other’s (un)finished writing.
The course also addresses the writing process from an individual’s perspective, focusing on questions of being and becoming a writer, what kinds of different writing strategies there are, and how to receive critique on one’s own writing. It is targeted at students who want to improve their English writing skills for different types of professional purposes. Specifically, it is aimed at those who have difficulties with being productive writers and a tendency to procrastinate.
