Emile Alexandrov studied philosophy at the University of Notre Dame (Australia).

The primary focus of his bachelor’s and master’s degrees was on German and Greek philosophy, especially Heidegger and the Ancient Greek tradition. His Doctoral work shifted his focus towards Neoplatonism and the problem of non-discursive thinking throughout late Antiquity and early Middle Ages.

The University of Notre Dame awarded Emile his PhD in Philosophy under the supervision of Jeff Malpas and Nathan Lyons. During his Doctoral candidacy, he spent two semesters as a visiting scholar at the University of Erfurt in Germany and the following year at the Novosibirsk State University in Russia.

Emile works principally in metaphysics, mainly drawing from Greco-Arabic philosophy and Esoteric Buddhism. Emile is also on the board of editors for the Oriens Institute for Religious Research Journal in Japan and one of the directors of the yearly International Symposium on Buddhism & Neoplatonism.

Prof. Alexandrov contributes to the SAS curriculum as an instructor for core disciplines “Philosophy: Great Books”, “Ecce Homo”, “Meta-Narratives & Perspectives” and offers elective courses for the Cultural Studies major.
