Birol Baskan received his PhD in Political Science from Northwestern University in 2006 and has since then taught various political science courses in different higher education institutions.

Birol’s research inquires into the role(s) religion plays in state building, regime formation and interstate relations in the Middle East. In the pursuit of this broad and ambitious research agenda he has so far published four books and a number of academic articles. Birol’s current project, commissioned by Routledge, is to co-author a volume on the political transformation Turkey has undergone since the early 2000s.

Birol is going to contribute to the SAS curriculum with the courses for newly opened major in International Relations under Uncertainty. He also teaches such core courses as “Great Books: Philosophy & Social Thought,” “World Through History.”
