SAS and Shaninka Launch Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program

04 october 2023

The School of Advanced Studies (SAS) at the University of Tyumen and the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (Shaninka) have collaborated to offer a joint bachelor's degree in Sociology, with a major in Contemporary Social Sciences. In their first two years of study, students will be studying in Tyumen at SAS. In the subsequent two years, students will be completing their major in Moscow at Shaninka. Upon completion, students receive two diplomas and will have the unique experience of studying at two of Russia's leading schools.

In traditional double-degree programs, students usually study at only one university, while their partner university only certifies the program and shares its resources. However, SAS and Shaninka take on and adopt a unique approach. During the first two years, students will receive comprehensive education in English at SAS, which hosts the most international undergraduate program in Russia. SAS educational program is carried out by professors from 13 countries who have graduated from the world's leading universities. In the subsequent two years, Shaninka, a recognized leader in sociology education and social research in Russia, will provide students with an in-depth study of social sciences.

SAS is renowned for its internationality, personalized attention to each student, interactive teaching formats, emphasis on interdisciplinarity, and the development of academic competencies and universal skills. The education provided in the first two years serves as an excellent foundation for further study in the major.

Shaninka is an excellent place to major, particularly for its master's programs. The joint program requires students to spend two years at the Faculty of Social Sciences, which has been in existence since the institute's founding in 1995. The faculty serves as the foundation of the university's educational tradition, committed to the in-depth study of social theory.

On September 27, SAS held a meeting with the heads of the two schools to discuss the program and address any inquiries. The press conference video is accessible through the provided link.
